About the Comprehensible Australian
I started this project in September 2023, because of the frustration I felt as an English teacher. I felt my students frustration and lack of relevance towards the texts presented in typical textbooks which are Anglo-centric or USA-centric. I noticed a lack of good quality resources for Australian EAL/ESL content creation that goes beyond the “g’day” and slang.
Students want to be able to understand real Australians talking in a variety of contexts.
Since then I’ve done co-hosted podcasts and several solo podcasts in slow, plain, comprehensible English, which learners can use as Comprehensible Input as described by Steven Krashen’s Comprehensible Input Hypothesis, which predicts that in order to learn a language, sufficient input that a learner can understand must be consumed.

Host
Hi! Nice to meet you. I'm Josh, an English teacher from Melbourne, Australia.
I also learn languages, like you. I'm currently learning Russian and Ukrainian, and I've studied Spanish, Japanese and Indonesian in the past.
I love nature, as I live by the beach. On the weekend, I will be going for walks in gardens and forests, or just hanging out with my two cats.
I became an English teacher because I have a passion for language and the way different languages are structured, as well as how speakers of different languages see the same world as me.
